Sinus tarsi syndrome

March 30th, 2010

Sinus tarsi syndrome is a problem that causes pain on the lateral side of the ankle joint with the pain just in front of the ankle bone. One cause of this is that ligaments between the talus and calcaneus is sprained as part of an ankle sprain. This is often best treated by a physical therapist and manipulation and sometimes an injection. The other cause of sinus tarsi syndrome is a flat foot which cause compression of the joint on the outside of the foot. This is best treated with foot orthotics to relieve the compressive forces that caused it. It may also sometimes need an injection.
