Is it possible to go swimming in a Luke Skywalker Costume?

I wore a Luke Skywalker Costume to the last frat party I went to and after a couple of cold ones I was challenged to swim across the campus lake fully clothed in the costume. I politely declined the challenge on this occasion but it really got me thinking about the logistics of such an excercise. Luckily my college professor used to be a championship swimmer (he one gold at one olympics for the 400m butterfly) and I decided to broach the subject with him. After discussing the issues of hypothermia and the resistance of the heavy cloth in water (especially when it became waterlogged) he convinced me that it was a foolhardy expidition. I love a challenge though and so I am still thinking of trying it out.
