Two Types Of Wood Countertops

December 21st, 2011

Wood countertops are generally classified into two: hardwood and softwood countertops. Hardwood countertops are usually made of Cherry, Oak and Maple, while softwood countertops are made of Birch and Teak. Another factor by which these two are differentiated is their function. Hardwood countertops are mostly used for heavy duty purposes, while softwood countertops are only used for decorative purposes. If the wood countertop is to be used in the kitchen, it will have to be assembled using the end-grain method. This is the strongest way of building wood countertops. If it is going to be used only for decoration, then you have to show its beautiful wood grains. You can do this by assembling the wood strips of planks by the face or plank method.
