Turning organic matter into compost is an excellent way to avoid heavy trash cans and encourage recycling. Everything from grass clippings to dead leaves to old vegetables can be tossed in the compost bin to create the richest top soil for your garden. Even in small quarters, you can use a small compost bin and have a container garden on a deck or windowsill.
