The ducts of three pairs of large salivary glands open into the oral cavity: the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands (Figs. 186 and 188). Besides these, there are numerous small glands in the mucous membrane of the month, which, according to their location, are called as follows: the labial, buccal, palatine, and lingual glands. According to the character of the secretion, the glands may be serous, mucous or mixed.

      The three pairs of large salivary glands (glandulae salivales) attain considerable size and are located beyond the mucous membrane and retain connection with the oral cavity medical coding training trains all these.
