Back Exercises to Build Muscle Mass

January 16th, 2010

If you are trying to learn how to build muscle mass but are lifting weight that is too heavy, you are probably not getting full quality range of motion on chin ups if you’re only able to do 3. I would recommend doing lat pull downs with a weight that allows you to get about 7 reps. But consider this as well… chin ups are more difficult than lat pull downs for a variety of reasons. Different distribution of weight, your body swings a bit, etc. I have seen men that can do 15 lat pull downs with more than their bodyweight, but still have trouble with regular chin ups. For that reason I would suggest NOT GIVING UP your chin ups. Begin with them while you have your full strength, and get out as many as you can. But THEN do your 7 lat pull downs to compliment your chin ups. You will notice that as you lat pull downs improve you will eventually get out another rep on your regular chin ups. Continue until you can get at least 5-6 solid reps with your chin ups.
