A Look at the Gaming Console 3-5 Year Cycle
March 16th, 2010
Gaming consoles go in cycles. Manufacturers have pretty much synched up their research and development, production and marketing cycles together. No manufacturer wants to be left out of the buzz when a new console comes out – so they try to release their latest and greatest before other manufacturers – and as word gets out about competing manufacturers, you find they all release consoles at least within 12 months of each other.
And once these consoles are released, a new race is on. The race to modify the chipsets e.g. Nintendo Wii modchips – this race is run by ordinary people with electronics and programming skills.
