Find Alternative For Sugar In Diabetic Cake Recipes
June 4th, 2010
Many recipes for royal icing exist, giving various proportions of sugar, egg white, and lemon juice (or suggesting white vinegar or acetic acid instead of lemon juice) and the addition of a few drops of blue food coloring (or washing blue) to improve the color, as royal icing has a tendency to develop a creamy look, rather than remaining a brilliant white. Experience will determine the one you find most satisfactory.
However, you have to find a substitute for the sugar when making diabetic cake recipes. The sweet n low and other sweeteners are commonly used as an alternative.
Remember, never use icing sugar without sieving it a least once, and preachy twice. Storage conditions may have affected it adversely and could cause it to cake unless thoroughly sieved just before use.
