Learning Zen Mind Meditation

September 4th, 2010

Zen teaches the concept of beginner’s mind or an empty mind that is open to all possibilities. In a beginner’s mind there are many possibilities in an experts mind there are few. Shunryu Suzuki a Japanese Zen teacher wrote a wonderful small book called Zen Mind beginner’s Mind that was written by taking his lectures to western students in and around San Francisco in the 1960′s. In the book Suzuki talks simply about always keeping a beginner’s mind if one hopes to understand Zen and by understanding Zen learn how to stay with our monkey mind that is always yapping away with words, ideas and worries. Our minds and our lives will benefit tremendously if we can learn to stop being overwhelmed by our monkey mind.
